The One With American Idol
Current Mood: Bored
Currently Watching:
You know, I managed to let five years fly by without ever feeling the need to be consumed by that which is, I feel, solely responsible for the downfall of our civilization.
Fine, maybe I am overstating my case a bit, but you get the drift, right? Anyway, this season I am thoroughly enjoying myself with the audition process. Have you ever sat and found yourself critiquing right along with Simon Cowell? Um....'Cuz I do! I would do just about ANYTHING to be a guest judge on this show. I may not like the premise of the show, but I do love to see how many amazing singers there are in our great country! Some of these kids impress me in new ways each week.
Of course, the good kids are not even HALF as much fun as the bad. I love hearing them tell the judges, "But my friends always tell me how good I am."
Honey, FIND SOME NEW FRIENDS! But even with the fun of watching numerous morons humiliate themselves on national television, there is still more - it's not even the best part?
Do you know what the best part is? This best part is that in the audition room...
They
lock
one
of
the
doors.
See.....the judges always seem to find themselves in a room with double doors and for reasons unknown to the rest of the world, the left door is ALWAYS locked. In fact, you would think these moronic "singers" could figure that out, but nope. I thin I've heard Simon say, "Other door," more than I have heard Randy say, "It's a little pitchy." Anyway, thankfully, I have the answer to the burning closed door question. They lock the door for comedic effect. Let me show you what I mean.
Simon: "I'm sorry, Love. It's a no."
Girl: "Please, I've worked harder than ANYONE else. I've worked harder than I ever thought I could! What can I do to be better?"
Simon: "It's just not quite right."
Girl: Gathers her strength, lifts her head and says, "I think you are going to regret this." Then she slowly turns toward the exit, and calmly walks to the doors.
And it won't open. After a few tries, she manages to open the correct door and leave, but it's too late. Her triumphant egress is ruined and she must walk out with her head hanging. SO sad.
Actually, the best ones are those who win. One guy screamed, jumped up, and raced away from the judges. Then *BAM!*
Hee hee hee. I love it. Anyway, just thought I'd share. Now I must go finish a project for tomorrow. Adios!

I think that I am the only person who doesn't watch that show....either I am way cool or really uncool. I haven't quite figured out which yet!

After being completely engrossed in AI for two seasons and then completely disillussioned by the very unfair audition process after that, I have never watched a full season again. I just can't. I hate that they make a mockery out of idiots who can't sing a note simply to get ratings, while real talent gets shuffled to the side and not given a chance. Booooo!
But I DO love Simon Cowel. I would totally be that man if I were a judge.

Well... I don't really watch Idol anymore but my whole team does. I have never realized the door thing though. Interesting!.... I may have to set TIVO just to see that! HA HA HA!

So....Emily--> You can decide for yourself whether that makes you cool or not. I think it makes you cool. But I thought you were pretty cool to begin with.
Amber--> Wait, you hate the fact that they make a mockery of the people who can't sing? Let me tell you what's for truth...I have never nor even will care about the people who make it to Hollywood. For me, the only artists that matter are the ones who have paid their dues before making the bigtime. Winning American Idol (or coming in second...or third) is cheating. But I LOVE watching these people who THINK they can sing, but are wildly mistaken. It's great!!
Diana--> Yes, you definitely should.

Hmmm, yes. Well, I don't know that I would quite blame TV/American Idol/Poor vocal technique for the slump of our civilization, but I would probably blame liberals. I think perhaps all of the above would fit into the final category, though all poor singers are definitely not encompassed by it. On a more jovial note, I am quite entertained by the fact that there is a quite jolly Jay doing a show-tunes shuffle on your front entry webpage. Keep up the good work, and do try to come to one of our shin-digs, as they are most fun. Oh yeah, and we might be coming round to Waco this coming weekend, but I'll give you a holler to let you know.

Thanks so much for your encouragment about me going to A-stan. It really means a lot to me. I have gotten a few people who have told me that I shouldn't be going and all that. It doesn't discourage me since I know that is where I should be, but it makes it hard. So it is really good having affermation. Thank you for your encouragement. I am very glad that we are friends!
